I’m not watching SNL because we only have one TV at home and my parents are watching some movie on it…Roman Holiday or What About Bob, I don’t know which. So, I must be content with people’s random liveblog comments until tomorrow, when I find a stream.

I’m gonna watch Zodiac, to inspire me for a short story I need to write. I might also write poetry during the movie…I love this class so much that I left all my work ;till the end of term.

Roman Holiday and What About Bob are easier to confuse for each other than you may think.

I think you might be on to something…Audrey Hepburn is Bob. Poor Gregory Peck is just trying to be a journalist in Italy and she’s come into his life very suddenly…changing it forever.

I’m writing an ‘informal essay’ for my writing class (which has turned out to be a ridiculous chore) and it’s so painful…so I shall whine about it here for a sec.

I decided to write about the *~*THRILL OF DISCOVERY*~* and I was going to focus on it within the context of laboratory work…but as I started working on it, I realized I don’t find lab work to be all that thrilling, nor have I discovered anything in particular.

So now I’m gonna write about lab work yes, but also about the thrill of finding a new favourite song, a new TV show, and even A NEW FRIEND.

For some reason this seems very shallow to me. But I think that this fear stems from how the course has been taught…the instructor has presented writing as something that we use to confront ‘dirty realism’ - a sort of exorcism technique that we can apply and dive deep into our psyches with. This is obviously very constraining, and when you teach this to a bunch of health science students, you get a lot of angsty writing about failed relationships and the stress of applying to med school.
